Allahabad: A man in Uttar Pradesh has been booked for allegedly forcing his wife to change her religion after he married her under a false identity, police said on Saturday.

The couple married on April 9 last year after Shan Mohammad connected with his new wife through a fake Facebook profile under the name Rahul Singh. The 23-year-old complainant from Allahabad, whose name is unknown, alleged that after arriving at Mohammad's native district she realised that he had lied to her about his identity. Moreover, his actions were known and supported by his first wife, his brother and mother.

The woman was allegedly thrown out of the house and harrassed for protesting against the fraud. However, after an apology from Mohammad, the couple reconciled on August 15. The woman was then pressured to convert to another religion.

On September 18, the woman approached Superintendent of Police Kiran S and registered an official complaint, following which an FIR was lodged against the four individuals involved.
