Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh government today announced that it will rename Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) as Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University.
"Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has announced to rename UPTU as Dr APJ Abdul Kalam University. It has been also decided to construct a grand memorial for Kalam in the new campus of the university," an official spokesman said here.
Yadav said that Kalam had deep association with the state.
Former President died on in Shillong on July 27 following a massive cardiac arrest during a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management.
Dr. Kalam was buried yesterday with full military honours, including gun salute and playing of the Last Post as the members of his family and local Jamath lowered his mortal remains into a trench as slogans of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” rent the air.
