New Delhi: The UP police have filed a chargesheet against 15 people in the September 28 incident of a mob lynching in Uttar Pradesh's Dadri district that claimed the life of a Muslim man Mohammad Akhlaq.
The chargesheet filed by the UP police is based on the statement given by Mohammad Akhlaq's daughter Shaista, who is also the key witness in the case. One of the suspects named in the chargesheet is a juvenile and will be tried before the Juvenile Justice Board.
According to sources, the chargesheet has no mention of beef.
On September 28 this year, Mohammad Akhlaq was beaten to death by an angry mob in a Dadri village after an announcement from the village temple alleged that the family had consumed and stored beef in their house. His son Danish was also seriously injured in the attack.
Reports from forensic tests later proved that the meat found in Akhlaq's fridge was mutton and not beef.
According to reports, the mob was provoked by a man called Vishal, the son of a local BJP leader who was arrested two days after the incident.
Akhlaq's family now stays in Chennai with Mohammad's older son, an Indian Air Force man.
