UP: 4 killed as massive fire breaks out at hotel in Lucknow, CM Yogi meets those injured

UP fire Lucknow: So far, 18 people have been evacuated. All those rescued are being taken to the Civil Hospital.

UP fire Lucknow: A massive broke out at a hotel in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow on Monday morning, and as per reports, at least 4 people have been killed in the fire. As per sources close to India TV, both were declared brought dead by the Civil Hospital in Lucknow. Besides, 7 people have received treatment at the hospital.

As per reports, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath met those injured and are receiving treatment at the Civil Hospital. He took cognizance of the situation and directed officials to provide proper treatment to those injured in the fire. Along with this, the District Magistrate and senior police officers have been directed to reach the spot immediately and expedite the relief and rescue work.

Fire tenders reached the Levana Hotel located in Hazratganj, and efforts are underway to evacuate those trapped inside. So far, 18 people have been evacuated. 

As per Lucknow DM, a short circuit could have been the cause of the fire. "Cause (of the fire) is being ascertained. There's a possibility that it happened due to a short circuit. 18 of the total 30 rooms were occupied, and probably 35-40 people were there. The people who were stuck were evacuated and they have been sent to Civil Hospital," he told the media.

About two dozen people were rushed to Shyama Prasad Mukherjee hospital, officials said. Of these, two people died and seven are undergoing treatment. The others were released. The injured included fireman Chandresh Yadav, who sustained burn injuries while rescuing people.

Lucknow MP and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh took cognisance of the incident. "I came to know about the tragic incident of a fire in a hotel in Lucknow. I have inquired about the situation from the local administration. Relief and rescue operations are on. My office is in constant touch with the local administration. I pray to God for the speedy recovery of those injured in the incident," Singh said in a tweet.

Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak added that a probe has been ordered into the incident and strict action will be taken against the guilty. The minister added that free treatment will be provided to the injured. "We will also see that there is no recurrence of such incidents. And for this, directives will be issued for the entire state," he said.

Director (Information) Shishir Singh said Commissioner Lucknow division and police commissioner Lucknow will jointly probe the incident.
