Jaipur: In a major twist to political equations in Rajasthan, Harish Meena, brother of Union Minister of State for Finance Namonarayan Meena, and a senior Congress leader from Barmer Col Sona Ram have decided to join the BJP.
The formal announcement will be made tomorrow, top BJP sources said.
Harish Meena is presently on deputation in the Prime Minister's security and he has applied for Voluntary Retirement Scheme.
Both the leaders visited Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje at her Delhi residence today.
Col Sona Ram belongs to anti-Gehlot faction in Rajasthan Congress, and his entry into BJP could create problems for former External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh, who has been eyeing the Barmer ticket.
However a section of BJP leaders in Rajasthan does not want Jaswant Singh to contest, as he had contested from Darjeeling last time on Gorkha Janmukti Morcha ticket.
Harish Meena may contest the Dausa seat on BJP ticket. Congress leaders are thinking of fielding Kirodi Lal Meena's brother from this seat, sources said.
