Unhappy with the medical services being provided at the Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC), survivors of Bhopal gas tragedy on Tuesday staged a protest in the BMHRC premises near here and sought resignation of its Chairman, former Chief Justice of India A H Ahmadi.
The protesters, mainly women, led by the Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Udyog Sangathan (BGPMUS) - an NGO working for survivors of the tragedy, held placards seeking former Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ahmadi's resignation from BMHRC.
"The BMHRC was formed to provide treatment to the survivors but it is doing precious little for them," BGPMUS convenor Abdul Jabbar said. Six out of around 16 departments in BMHRC have become non-functional. Besides, there is a dearth of staff in it, he said. "Every day a patient's death is being reported from BMHRC which is very disturbing," Jabbar said.
"The BMHRC is in a bad shape and it needs to be improved in the interest of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy victims," he said adding that Ahmadi should resign immediately to pave way for bringing in a change in the hospital's management. PTI
