Gurgaon/Panchkula: In an embarrassment to Haryana Police, two top IPS officers of Gurgaon are at war, with Joint Commissioner Bharti Arora accusing Commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk of "falsely implicating" a family in a rape case and threatening her, a charge denied by him.

The fight has reached the Director General of Police Y P Singhal who said the entire matter will be probed by a senior officer.

Arora has levelled various serious charges against Virk, accusing him of slapping different charges against a family to "falsely implicate" them in a rape case. She has demanded a CBI probe into the matter.

"When I started investigation into the rape case, I realised that the Commissioner of Police has falsely implicated an entire family in the case. I objected and told
him 'sir, this is wrong'. Then he started torturing me mentally and threatened me and said I leave the probe into the case otherwise I will be harmed," the Joint Commissioner has alleged.

She has claimed that the woman, who has filed the case, had filed three other rape cases on previous occasions also. In her letter sent to the DGP, Arora has alleged that Virk was mentally torturing her over the inquiry and supervision of files in the rape case.

"..I want a CBI inquiry in the entire matter so that facts are unearthed. Otherwise there is no reason how an entire family has been falsely implicated, that too by a woman, who has got three different rape cases registered...," Arora has said.

Reacting to this, Virk said, "These allegations are wrong... What can I say if someone is saying something?" He said both the officers have written to the DGP to inquire and take action. "These are official matters. Our department is dealing with it," he added.

In Panchkula, the state police chief said he has received separate communications from the two officers pertaining to the case and added that the entire matter will be probed by a senior officer.

"Both sides have given their version. Ms. Bharti Arora and Mr Virk have separately written to me. I am examining both these communications. Whatever needs to be done in the matter will be done as per law," Singhal told reporters.

"I am carefully examining the whole thing and will get the matter inquired by a senior officer," he added.

To a question, the DGP said, "both should have avoided going to the media since they had brought the matter to my notice. They should have stuck to and followed the departmental procedure in such matters and waited for the outcome. I am hopeful that now they will refrain from approaching the media in the matter."

Interestingly, Gurgaon Police was in the limelight exactly a week back for positive work 'car-free day' organised on Tuesday at the initiative of Virk.

The car-free day was organised to free the roads from traffic congestion and encourage people to use public modes of transportation.

"'Car-free day' is not a new concept. World over it was started 22 years back and is held on September 22 every year. Gurgaon is experimenting it for the first time," Virk had told reporters then.

"If the experiment is successful, we will observe every Tuesday as 'car-free day' in select locations. The idea is to take it to the weekly basis, because we are in a state where we actually require it because there is so much congestion on roads," he had said.
