Mumbai, Apr 13: A heavy truck carrying 12 tonnes of material hit a divider on Mumbai Western Express highway on Friday night and tilted precariously causing a huge traffic snarl.
The driver Mohammed Aslam, who was driving the truck from Ahmednagar to Mumbai, said, he was neither under influence of alcohol, nor was he drowsy.
Aslam said, the brake suddenly failed, and the truck hit the divider.
Suresh Madne, assistant traffic inspector, said, for the traffic police it was a huge job, first, to unload 12 tonnes of material from the truck, and, second, to ensure diesel does not spill out of the tank causing further mishap.
During the last 24 hours, there had been two accidents on Western express highway, while on JVLR (Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road) there was a pileup of 17 vehicles including 8 cars, resulting in the death of two persons and injuries to nine others.
