Jalpaiguri (WB): A tri-partite agreement was today signed here between the state government, tea garden owners and workers union which agreed to the hike in the wages of tea garden workers in West Bengal.
As per the tri-partite agreement, tea garden workers in Dooars area would get a hike of Rs 17.50 in the first year while in the second year they will get a hike of Rs 10 and in the third year they will get another hike of Rs 10.
The tea garden workers in Dooars area now get a wage of Rs 95 per day and with the hike of Rs 17.50 their new wage would be Rs 112.50, the Convenor of 24 trade unions of tea workers, Zia-ul Alam, said.
In the hills, workers would get a hike of Rs 22.50 in the first year as now they get a wage of Rs 90 per day. After the wage hike they will get Rs 112.50 per day. In the second year they will get a hike of Rs 10 and in the third year they would also get a hike of another Rs 10, Alam said.
Alam said a Committee was formed comprising around 27 members from the state government, tea garden owners and tea garden workers unions which would notify the minimum wage for the tea garden workers in West Bengal.
After the committee gives it report the state government would notify the minimum wage for the tea garden workers, he said.
West Bengal Labour Moloy Ghatak and other senior officials of the Labour department were present during the signing of the tri-partite agreement.
