Howrah (West Bengal), Mar 31: Five persons, including two women, were today knocked down and killed by a train when they were crossing the tracks at Santragachi railway station in Howrah district,
The speeding Ranchi-Howrah Intercity Express knocked down the five people when they were crossing the tracks instead of using the overbridge at about 2:30 PM, South Eastern Railway sources said.
All the five died on the spot, they said. Railway Minister Mukul Roy announced Rs two lakh as ex-gratia to the families of the victims, a South Eastern Railway spokesman said.
