One of the first airports of India, The Chennai Airport is the primary airport serving the city of Chennai and also a major hub of civil aviation in South India.
The Chennai Airport has two names—while the domestic airport has been named after Kamaraj, the international terminal is known as Annadurai International Airport.
Known as the third busiest airport in India in terms of passenger traffic, The Chennai Airport also serves as the regional headquarters of the Airports Authority of India in South India.
The airport handles 13.5 million passengers annually and about 325 aircraft movements a day in 2012.
The Chennai Airport has gone through expansion ad modernization in recent year, from parallel runways, taxiways and aprons, to parking bays and cargo terminals; the airport is expected to reach saturation by 2016–17.
