Yellow City or Golden City:
Jaisalmer- It is called the “Golden City” because the yellow golden sand gives a golden shadow to the city and its neighbouring areas. The town also stands on a fold of yellowish sandstone, crowned by a fort, picturing the town “Yellow” or “Golden”.
It is a city in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is also a World Heritage Site. It lies in the heart of the Thar Desert and has a population of about 78,000.
Amritsar- The city is popularly called the “Golden City” because of the Golden Temple which stands in the town. The Golden Temple is one of the most sacred shrines of the world. Therefore the city holds much significance.
The city is situated in the north-western part of India and also is the administrative headquarters of the Amritsar district in the state of Punjab. The city is known for its rich cuisine and culture and for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in 1919.
