Chennai: Various journalists associations here today staged a protest demonstration against the gang-rape of a 23-year-old photojournalist in Mumbai.

Members of the Press Club, Network of Women (in media), Chennai and Tamil Nadu Press Photographers' Association staged a protest, demanding security for women professionals, and also justice in the Mumbai case.

The protesting members, journalists from various media organisations, wore black badges as a symbol of protest.

In the neighbouring Union Territory of Puducherry, journalists and photographers staged a demonstration condemning the gang-rape incident.

The photojournalist, who worked as an intern with an English magazine, was gang-raped by five men on Thursday evening when she had gone to the deserted Shakti Mills compound in Lower Parel with a male colleague on assignment.
