Thunderstorm hits several parts of Himachal Pradesh

Shimla: A thunderstorm of severe intensity accompanied by lightning and intermittent heavy rains lashed several parts of Himachal Pradesh, disrupting normal life yesterday.






The storm, accompanied by intermittent heavy rains, disrupted power supply in Shimla and more than 50 per cent of the town remained without electricity for more than three hours.

The power supply in the state capital was restored after 8 PM.

The storm also uprooted trees and blew off boards and hoarding at many places and people were forced to rush indoors.

Higher reaches in tribal areas had another spell of  mild snowfall.

Baijnath and Dharamsala in Kangra district received 70 mm and 61 mm of rains while Palampur, Una and Manali received 37 mm, 34 mm and 24 mm of rains, followed by Shimla, Nurpur and Gaggal 21 mm , Naina Devi 20 mm, Pandoh and Saloni 19 mm, Berthin and Gohar 17mm, Kheri 16 mm and Amb and Bangana 15 mm.

There was no significant change in maximum temperature which remained steady and Una was hottest in the region with a high of 33.0 degree while Sundernagar and Solan recorded maximum temperature at 30.3 deg and  29.0 deg, followed by Bhunter 28.5 deg, Nahan 27.2 deg, Dharamshala 26.4 deg, Shimla 24.4 deg and Kalpa 15.0 deg C.

The local MeT office has predicted rains and thundershowers at many places in lower and mid hills and rains and snow in higher hills and tribal areas during next 24 hours.
