Latehar (Jharkhand), Jan 7: Three CRPF personnel were killed and seven injured in an encounter with Maoists in Jharkhand's Latehar district today.
Police said the encounter took place near Katila locality of Amuatikar village when the CRPF went there following information that several Maoist guerrillas, including those from outside the state, had gathered there.
The three CRPF men were killed on the spot and the seven injured were taken to hospital in neighbouring Palamau distirct, the police said.
The encounter broke out when the Maoists from a hill top fired on the security personnel.
Units drawn from the 112 and 134 battalions of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and state police were out to conduct an anti-Naxal operation when the attack took place.
The security forces have consolidated their positions now and some casulaities have been inflicted upon the Naxals too, a CRPF offficial said in New Delhi.
Security forces could not press a helicopter for casualty evacuation due to bad weather and hence they are being pulled back by road and the closest railhead is at Daltongunj, they said.
This is the first major encounter this year where security forces suffered casualities in anti-Maoist operations.
