The truth behind Ashutosh Maharaj's 'samadhi'

New Delhi: Mystery shrouds the health of Ashutosh Maharaj, the leader of Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan, a sect based in Noormahal in Jalandhar district of Punjab. While doctors who reportedly examined the godman declared him "clinically dead", the sect management scotched the medical diagnosis, insisting that he had only gone into 'samadhi' (deep state of meditation) and would come out of it when he so desired. Pubjab govt. gives status report in high court. Govt. cites doctors report that Ashhutosh is clinicaly dead.. Court says petetion is not maintanable under habeus corpus. Govt. also says he is not in illigal detention.Next hearing would be on 11th. Feb. Ashutosh, said to be more than 70 years old, was not keeping well for the past few months, according to sources privy to the highly-secretive sect which was founded by him in 1983. Although the mystery continues, but the latest reports suggest that DJJS management might be delaying the news about his death so as to resolve the succession row. In another development in this case, driver of Ashutosh Maharaj has approached the High Court claiming that Maharaj has been kept hostage by the Ashram as they want to settle property transfer and succession row. Court has issued a notice to the Ashram and the reply should be filed till February 11. So who is Ashutosh Maharaj? Ashutosh Maharaj, as he is called by his followers, laid the foundation of the Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan (DJJS) sect in the mid 80′s. When Punjab was struggling under the dark days of terrorism, Ashutosh Maharaja appeared on the scene with the divine weapon of Divine Knowledge (Brahm Gyan). With innumerable aspirants throwing themselves into the mission, he decided to give it a formal name and Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan (Divine Light Awakening Mission) was born. He formally made Noormahal as his base to carry out the mission of peace in Punjab.
