Muzaffarnagar: Tension is brewing in Mohammedpur Raisingh village near Muzaffarnagar where a Jat Mahapanchayat is in progress at a primary school, in defiance of local administration's prohibitory orders under Section 144 today.
Heavy police and Rapid Action Force has been deployed in the area. The mahapanchayat is being held by local Jat community in the wake of an attack on an ex-serviceman that led to lynching of three Muslim youths.
The mahapanchayat is being attended by Naresh tikait, Baba Harkishen, and former Rashtriya Janata Dal MLA Rajpal Baliyan.
A large number of women are also taking part in the mahapanchayat in which leaders are discussing steps to protect the community from sudden attacks.
A parallel panchayat is being held in Husainpur Kalan village also.
The district administration is keeping a close watch on the proceedings at both the panchayats.
