Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao Monday urged Krishna River Water Management Board (KRWMB) to do justice to Telangana.
His plea is amid a raging row over sharing of water and electricity with Andhra Pradesh.
He told KRWMB chairman S.K.G. Pundit that Andhra Pradesh is denying Telangana its due share in electricity, which led to a crisis and made generation of electricity with Srisailam reservoir water inevitable to save standing crops in the state.
Pundit called on KCR, as Telangana chief minister is popularly known, even as the war of words continued between the two states.
Saying that Telangana has right to use water from Srisailam and generate hydel power, KCR called upon the board to protect this right.
Demanding that the board discuss the issue in detail at its meeting Oct 29, he called for framing "operation rules".
KCR explained in detail the injustices meted out to Telangana in sharing of river waters for 58 years in united Andhra Pradesh.
He said now that Telangana has become a separate state, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is conspiring against Telangana to show it as a failed state.
The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief told Pundit that Naidu is denying Telangana 54 percent share in electricity as prescribed by Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.
He charged Naidu with spreading falsehood to stop Telangana from using Srisailam water for power generation.
KCR pointed out that the water level in the reservoir is 857 feet and as per government orders issued in the past water can be used up to a level of 834 feet.
He also told the board chairman that when Naidu was the chief minister of united Andhra Pradesh for nine years, water level in Srisailam was not maintained and it fell to even 750 feet.
Alleging that injustice was always done to Telangana in sharing of Krishna river water, KCR demanded that the board put an end to this.
Andhra Pradesh has already complained to the board that Telangana is using Srisailam water for power generation in violation of rules and this may deprive the former of drinking water.
