As many as 11 people were charred to death after a massive fire broke out at a scrap godown in Hyderabad. Nearly 12 people are suspected to be trapped in the blaze, while 11 bodies have so far been recovered. The blaze was reported from the Bhoiguda area of Secunderabad in Hyderabad.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed grief over the fire accident and announced ex-gratia to the next of the kin of each deceased and said steps were being taken to bring back the mortal remains.
The deceased, all migrant workers from Bihar, were found on the first floor of the building, police and fire officials said. The eleven people were charred beyond recognition, a police official said, adding the cause of the fire was being ascertained.
The fire control room received a call around 3 AM and the blaze was completely extinguished after about four hours, they said.
The eleven people, who were sleeping on the first floor of the building, could not save themselves as there was only one internal spiral staircase in it, they said.
Those killed and trapped inside were believed to be sleeping inside the godown at the time of the incident. A wall of the godown had collapsed following the massive blaze, which prevented those inside to step out of the godown.
Mourning the death of Bihar workers in the fire incident, Telangana Chief Minister KC Rao announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each for the next of the kins. The chief minister also directed the Chief Secy to make arrangements for the repatriation of bodies of workers killed in the incident.
President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed sadness on the loss of lives in the incident,
"The death of workers in a fire accident at a godown in Secunderabad, Telangana is a tragedy beyond words. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families. I wish speedy recovery for the injured," Kovind tweeted.
"Pained by the loss of lives due to a tragic fire in Bhoiguda, Hyderabad. My thoughts are with the bereaved families in this hour of grief. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of the deceased," Pm Modi tweeted.
