Ayodhya: Tarpaulin sheet and other material at the makeshift Ram temple at the disputed site here will be changed tomorrow as per Supreme Court's directions, an official said here today.

In August, the Supreme Court had allowed changing of the worn-out tarpaulin sheets and other material at the makeshift temple.

”We direct that the authorised person/Commissioner Faizabad is permitted to replace the old and worn out tarpaulin sheet, jute matting, bamboo, polythene sheet and ropes over the makeshift structure by new ones of the same size and quality and exactly in the same manner as they were previously placed,” a bench headed by Justice T S Thakur had said.

The replacement of sheets and any other worn-out pieces would be carried out in the presence of two court-appointed observers, including a retired and a serving judge.

The PWD functionaries will start the process of replacement, in the presence of the observers, a team of Archaeological Survey of India, Receiver of the disputed site and Faizabad Divisional Commissioner, parties and nominees from both Hindu and Muslim sides.

According to the Commissioner's office, this specially designed fire proof tarpaulin has been supplied by IIT Roorkie on the payment of Rs 11 lakhs 40 thousand.

The public works department (PWD) of the state government is the nodal agency to get all work done on the temple.

According to a rough estimate, the whole replacement will cost around Rs 20 lakhs rupees.

Faizabad divisional commissioner told PTI, “the payment for all works of the makeshift temple will be done from the account of Ram Lalla.”

The account that is being maintained at Faizabad main branch of State Bank of India in the name of Ram Lalla, has got the balance of more than 3.5 crore rupees.

This amount has been collected from the donation box kept at the make shift Ram temple, for the offering of devotees.

The makeshift structure was constructed in the midnight of 6/7 December 1992.

For the first time the makeshift temple was covered by fire proof tent in the year 2003 and then after eleven years in July 2014, the upper tarpaulin was partially replaced after it got damagedby monkeys.
