Chennai, June 23: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa Sunday announced an assistance of Rs.5 crore for the relief of flood and landslide victims in the rain-ravaged hill state of Uttarakhand.



"As a token of support and solidarity of the government and people of Tamil Nadu, I have ordered an immediate contribution of a sum of Rs.5 crore from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund to the government of Uttarakhand," Jayalalithaa said in a statement here.

According to the chief minister, 275 stranded pilgrims from Tamil Nadu have been brought back to the state.

"As on June 22, a total of 275 pilgrims have been brought to Chennai by the Tamil Nadu government and similar facilities have been extended to all of them. My government will ensure that these facilities are extended to all pilgrims from the state who are returning from the disaster zone in Uttarakhand," Jayalalithaa said.
