Pune, March 12 ; Commonwealth Games accused and Pune MP Suresh Kalmadi on Sunday flagged off the new Pune-Ahmedabad Duronto Express here.
Released on bail from Delhi's Tihar jail, Kalmadi is presently taking part in all public programmes with a vengeance to regain is lost prestige.
On Sunday at 10 pm, he appeared at the Pune railway station to show the green flag to Duronto Express, surprising many. The Congress had suspended him from the party after he was arrested in the Commonwealth Games scam.
Kalmadi spent nine months in Tihar jail and returned home to a welcome from his supporters.
A large number of Congress supporters were present at the railway function.
Said Kalmadi: "I always try to work for the betterment of Pune. When I was minister of state for Railway, I had moved the proposal to link Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train upto Pune. Work is going on in this regard"
Kalmadi refused to answer questions on Commonwealth Games scam.
