Supreme Court stays Gauhati HC verdict declaring CBI as unconstitutional

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today gave the country's premier investigating agency CBI a breather, by staying the Gauhati High Court verdict declaring the agency as unconstitutional. The apex court will take up the matter

“We will consider and go through the appeal filed by the Centre”, said Chief Justice of India P Sathasivam and Justice Ranjana Desai.

We are concerned with all other CBI cases too, said the apex court.

Attorney General G E Vahanvati said, the High Court's reasoning that Delhi Special Police Establishment Act was not applicable to CBI was a convoluted logic.

Today's hearing was held at the official residence of the Chief Justice of India, with a large crowd of mediapersons waiting outside.
