Greater Noida, Sep 10: Bulldozers from Greater Noida Authority today demolished several illegal houses built along a 2-km long 'flood zone' stretch in Hybatpur area of Noida Extension here.
The stretch, which was declared as green belt, was sold by some unscrupulous builders to people even after repeated warning by Greater Noida authorities.
The authorities faced stiff resistance from locals who pelted stones and burnt tyres on roads from Gaur City till Tigri village, police said.
It took half-an-hour for police from Bisrakh and other nearby police stations and a PAC battalion to quell the resistance.
Some policemen and residents suffered minor injuries in the skirmish.
The bull dozers demolished the unauthorised constructions from Gaur City till Tigri village. Residents claimed that they were told by the dealers at the time of purchase that the plots did not belong to Greater Noida authority.
However, District Magistrate MKS Sundaram, said that he had warned the public not to buy land in flood zone area.
