Stoning, arson in UP town after customer's scuffle with Bank of India manager

Kannauj, UP:  Local residents of Saurikh hamlet near Kannauj today went on a stoning and arson spree, after a scuffle at the local Bank of India branch over opening of a bank account. Additional reinforcements

Kannauj, UP:  Local residents of Saurikh hamlet near Kannauj today went on a stoning and arson spree, after a scuffle at the local Bank of India branch over opening of a bank account.





Additional reinforcements of PAC jawans were sent from Kannauj to control the mob, which had begun setting fire to vehicles and stoning of the local bank branch.

The situation was brought under control after five hours, and two persons were taken into custody.

A large number of customers, mostly students, converged at the local Bank of India branch to get their accounts opened. A quarrel ensued between a customer and the bank manager, after which security guards threw out the man.

Soon a large number of local residents assembled and began to stone the BOI branch.

Miscreants among the mob also attacked local reporters recording the violence on camera.

Subhash Chandra Shakya, local additional SP said, the situation was now under control.
