The Centre has asked all government agencies and state governments to depict the State Emblem of India -- Lion Capital -- with the motto "Satyameva Jayate" written in Devanagari script after it found this was being omitted by them during official communication.

"The State Emblem of India (Regulation of Use) Rules, 2007, was circulated to all state governments, Union Territory administrations and ministries, departments of the government of India on October 17, 2007.

"Subsequently, this Ministry had issued advisories on November 19, 2007, and September 22, 2009, to all state governments, UT administrations, ministries, departments of the government of India, reiterating the position that all government agencies authorised to use the State Emblem of India on their stationery, seals, documents should depict the State Emblem together with the motto "Satyameva Jayate"- written in Devanagri script- below the profile of the Lion capital.

"They were requested to ensure the motto "Satyameva Jayate" is not omitted from the State Emblem of India," Minister of State for Home Affairs, M Ramachandran, told Lok Sabha today.

It had been brought to the notice of this Ministry that some government agencies, while using the State Emblem of India, for official purposes, omit "Satyameva Jayate" and only use the profile of the Lion Capital, he said. PTI
