Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren yesterday issued directions to disseminate nutritional programmes through street plays and audio-visual films across Jharkhand to create more awareness among masses about malnutrition.
“Disseminate information about nutritional programmes through street dramas, audio visual films in villages, at haats and other places,” a press release said quoting Soren.
Addressing the second meeting of the State Nutrition Council here, Soren emphasised on the need for addressing malnutrition in the state on a war-footing and suggested creating more awareness about the issue relating to malnutrition.
Advising the deputy commissioners of all the districts to ensure all the children availing the services of Anganwadi Centres, he said children suffering from acute malnutrition should be immediately referred to the malnutrition treatment centre in the respective districts.
“There is a need for nutrition surveillance by the community in every village,” he added.
Social Welfare, Women and Child Development Minister Annapurna Devi said community-based management of malnutrition was important as many women were not being able to go to hospitals.
Pointing out that the current available data on malnutrition is based on the 2006 survey, she suggested a fresh state wide survey on nutrition by a reputed agency.
