Kanpur, Jun 19 :Samajwadi Party MLA and one of his associates, arrested for allegedly misbehaving with a woman IAS officer of the state power department here, were on Sunday night released on bail.
MLA Irfan Solanki and Hasan Rumi, arrested earlier in the day, were released on a personal bond of Rs 15,000 each by the Remand Magistrate, court sources said, adding they were asked not to leave the city without the court's permission.
Solanki and his associates had on June 15 gone to the office of Kanpur Electricity Supply Company (KESCO) MD, Ritu Maheshwari with some complaints.
When the security guards did not allow them inside, they barged into the cabin of Maheshwari and allegedly misbehaved with her. District Magistrate Hari Om had to intervene and the matter was put to rest following an “apology” from the legislator.
However, two days later, a formal complaint was lodged against Solanki and his supporters by executive engineer Ashok Kumar Singh in this regard.
Police had registered a case against the accused under various sections of IPC including 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 189 (threat of injury to public servant), 506 (criminal intimidation).
“This (complaint) is the result of political hatred. When a compromise was achieved on the same day, what was the need of a police complaint two days later?,” Solanki said. PTI
