New York, Aug 8: Some supporters of Congress president Sonia Gandhi gathered outside a local hospital here, where they believe she has been admitted, and prayed for her speedy recovery after a surgery for an undisclosed ailment.
More than 10 supporters belonging to the ‘Indian Congress Party USA,' assembled outside the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center here on Saturday and wanted to offer prayers inside the hospital's chapel, but were denied permission by authorities.
There has been speculation in media that 64-year-old Sonia Gandhi has been admitted to the Cancer Centre, but it has not been confirmed.
The Congress has declined to disclose her ailment and the nature of the surgery. The party has also not disclosed the hospital or the country where the surgery took place, citing request from the family that her health was a personal matter and others had to respect the family's privacy.
Sonia Gandhi's children Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra and son-in-law Robert Vadra are with her.
She has been moved out of the ICU, where she remained for 24 hours after the surgery, the party said in a statement. PTI
