Congress on India-China clash: Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, on Wednesday, held a protest against the government in front of the Gandhi statue inside the Parliament premises and alleged that the government is hiding the facts on the recent India-China faceoff at Tawang.
Also, during the Congress parliamentary party, she raised questions over the intention of the government behind not holding a proper discussion on the situation at border regions.
"Govt being adamant and not holding a discussion on it. The public and House are unable to know the real situation. Why is Govt not sending out a financial reply to Chinese transgression?" Gandhi said expressing her concerns over Chinese transgression.
Several Opposition leaders joined the protest
Meanwhile, during the protests, Opposition parties also joined Congress and demanded a discussion on the recent clash.
Notably, ever since the media reported the India- China clash in Arunachal Pradesh' Tawang region, the Opposition has been demanding a discussion on the issue in both Parliament and Rajya Sabha. The opposition placed several notices in Parliament, and one was on the LAC clash. However, the government ignored the demands saying that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had already addressed both houses last week.
Defence Minister assures Parliament on India-China clash
In a statement in Lok Sabha, Singh said no Indian soldiers have died, nor has anyone been seriously injured in the faceoff. "The Indian Army bravely prevented the PLA from encroaching on our territory and forced them to withdraw to their posts. Some soldiers from both sides were injured in the skirmish," the defence minister said. "I would like to assure this House that our forces are fully committed to safeguarding our territorial integrity, and are always ready to prevent any attempt against it," he said.
The Chinese side was asked to refrain from such actions and maintain peace and tranquillity along the border. The issue has also been taken up with the Chinese side through diplomatic channels, Singh said. "I am confident that this entire House will stand united in supporting our soldiers in their brave effort," he said. Seeking an explanation from the defence minister over the Tawang incident, various opposition members created an uproar in Lok Sabha, alleging that they were not being allowed to speak.
