Chavan has already accepted moral responsibility for the debacle in the polls. On the day of the Lok Sabha poll results on Friday, Maharashtra Industries Minister Narayan Rane had resigned from his post in the wake of defeat of his son and sitting MP from Ratnagiri- Sindhudurg seat, Nilesh Rane on his home turf by a Shiv Sena candidate.
Besides, the state EGS Minister Nitin Raut had also resigned from the state cabinet owning the responsibility of the defeat of party nominee in Nagpur Lok Sabha seat.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Manikrao Thakre has called a meeting of the party office-bearers in Mumbai tomorrow, where the chief minister will also remain present, party sources said.
In its worst ever performance, Congress was reduced to just two seats in the state which sends 48 MPs to Lok Sabha, while the tally of its alliance partner NCP was whittled down to four due to the unprecedented saffron tide. The NDA won 42 seats from the state.
