Imphal, Mar 23: Six new police outposts would be opened soon to provide security along two important national highways passing through interior hill district of Tamenglong and Chandel in Manipur, Manipur Government Spokesman and state Education minister Moirangthem Okendro said today.
Talking to mediapersons here, Okendro said the decision to open new police outposts in addition to the existing police stations and outposts in the state was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by the chief minister O. Ibobi Singh here late last evening.
While five new police outposts would be set up at Keimai, Khongsang, Awang Khul, Joujangtek and Thangal area along the Imphal-Jiribam-Silchar national highway no 53 in Tamenglong district, a new police post would be established at Machi near Imphal-Moreh national highway no 39 in Chandel district, he said.
Okendro said frequent disturbances along the national highways by anti-social elements necessitated the government to set up new police outposts in the interior districts.
The Spokesman said the cabinet also decided to appoint retired IAS official and former principal secretary to Manipur government D V Singh as new chairman of the Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) and another former principal secretary and retired IAS officer L P Golmei as member of the MPSC.
