Barabanki, UP, Oct 19: A sick farmer died at the doorsteps of the local branch of Bank of India here on Wednesday, after the bank staff refused to allow him to withdraw his Rs 3 lakh deposited in his account due to mismatch of left thumb impression.
According to the farmer's family members, he was suffering from jaundice and wanted to withdraw his Rs 3 lakhs which he had deposited in the bank over a large period.
The bank officials, the family members alleged, refused to allow him to withdraw saying this thumb impression did not match.
The farmer first came to the branch on Monday, and the bank officials asked him to come on Tuesday, and later, on Wednesday.
The farmer, who was weak with jaundice, died at the doorsteps of the branch.
An FIR has been lodged against the Bank of India for causing death due to negligence. However, the local zonal manager of Bank of India said they were unable to allow him to withdraw because his thumb impression did not match.
