A Shiv Sena Upa Shahar Pramukh (deputy city chief) has received calls from a man who claimed to be a Chhota Shakeel aide and threatened to eliminate Sena supremo Bal Thackeray and blow up the Shiv Sena Bhavan.
Rajendra Shahu, upa pramukh of the Shiv Sena's Ulhasnagar unit who received the calls, filed a complaint with the Ulhasnagar Police Station on Thursday, reports Mumbai Mirror.
Shahu said he got calls from a ꧭ number, which belongs to Belize - a country in Central America. However, police say it could also be a call made via the Internet.
“I got the calls on Wednesday at 11 pm,” said Shahu. Shahu said the caller allegedly abused him and said he was going to bomb the Sena Bhavan. He then registered a police complaint.
Senior inspector of Ulhasnagar I Police Station Kashinath Bharte said, “We have registered a complaint against the unknown caller under Section 507 (criminal intimidation by anonymous communication) and have asked the service providers for the number.”
Police have also recorded statements of four others, including Sena Shakha Pramukh Jamil Khan, who was with Shahu when he received the calls and said that he overheard the conversation. Police are investigating the Chhota Shakeel angle, but suspect that the call may be the handiwork of an Ulhasnagar resident who has a grudge against Shahu. “We have started investigating the case and checking the background of Shahu's rivals,” added Bharte.
Rajendra Shahu's conversation with the caller:
Caller: Hum Shiv Sena Pramukh Balasaheb Thackeray aur Shiv Sena Bhavan ko uda denge. Tu bhi nahin rahega, tereko bhi uda denge!
Shahu: Main police ke pas jaunga, chhodunga nahi!
Caller: (aside) Bhai, ye police ke paas jane ki baat kar raha hai, kya karu?
Bhai: (at a distance) Police kuch nahin kar sakti.
