Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja, accused of raping his 20-year-old domestic help, on Saturday walked out of the Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai where he was lodged for more than three-and-a-half months following bail granted by the Bombay High Court.
On Thursday, the Court had granted him bail but asked him to stay in Delhi till the commencement of the trial.
Attired in green T-shirt and jeans, 36-year-old Shiney was received by his wife Anupam and close family friend and filmmaker Ashok Pandit.
Soon after stepping out, the three boarded a grey Mercedez Benz and sped away without speaking to a battery of journalists, who had waited for the moment since morning. Later, Shiney said he had full faith in the judiciary.
The actor's family deposited surety amount of Rs 50,000 with the sessions court registrar, in accordance with the conditions prescribed by the High Court while granting bail.
Shiney will have to stay in Delhi till the trial commences in Mumbai, a condition that the High Court had imposed while allowing him bail to prevent him from influencing the witnesses or tampering with the evidence.
He was arrested on June 15 after his maid lodged a complaint with Oshivara police station that the actor had raped her at his residence.
The wife and child of the actor were not at home when the alleged incident occurred. (PTI)
