New Delhi, Mar 27: Janata Dal-United leader Sharad Yadav today moved a censure motion in Lok Sabha asking Team Anna to desistfrom making derogatory remarks against MPs.
In his speech, Yadav said, there could be aberrations in any institution, but India's sovereign institution like the Parliament should not be weakened. "We can accept remarks against individuals, but the institution should not be harmed".
"We in the Opposition did not allow this House to function for nearly one month on the issue of JPC. We took out rallies against corruption. It was because of us that 27 persons, mostly from corporates and even politicians were jailed in the scams, and yet they are making derogatory remarks against us", thundered Sharad Yadav.
"It was this House under Speaker Somnath Chatterjee which expelled 11 members in the cash-for-question scam in a record 13 days. But nowadays, there's this trend of tarring the entire tribe of politicians with the same brush", said Yadav.
"As India's sovereign institution, this Parliament occasionally faces the anger of the people and also their attacks. We tolerate this, but there is a limit to such assaults", said Yadav.
Yadav mentioned the name of one MP Dalpat Singh Paraste, who was so honest, that he did not have the money for the funeral of his wife.
"These people (Team Anna) don't look at honest people, they only point out to those who are corrupt and tar politicians with the same brush", he said.
Yadav recalled the old proverb " Jas Raja, Tas Praja" (Like Ruler,Like People), but with the advent of democracy, it is now "Jas Praja, Jas Raja" (Like People, Like Ruler). "The rulers get elected from among the people. If you want to change, then change society", he said.
