Sania Mirza has roped in designer brother Shantanu and Nikhil to design her bridal wear, says a media report. Both Shantanu and Nikhil are Sania's friends.
Shantanu and Nikhil said: “Yes we are designing Sania's wedding and reception outfits, but we cannot divulge any further details on it.” However, going by their previous creations, one can expect something rich and sensuous.
Their creations tend to be both delicate and rich, with use of chiffon, silks, silk crepes, silk georgette, Indian hand-woven Jacquards and brocades and in electric colours.
The brothers are known for dressing up celebs. They redesigned the entire look of Amitabh Bachchan for a game show.
Their clientele includes tennis star Serena Williams, cricketers Zaheer Khan, Irfan Pathan, Glenn McGrath, Stephen Fleming, actors Hrithik Roshan, Shah Rukh Khan, Dia Mirza, Neha Dupia, Kunal Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif, Shilpa Shetty, Deepika Padukone and music director A R Rehman,
They had designed the dress for Sania's engagement to childhood friend Sohrab in July 2009.
Sania wore a Swarovski-studded ghagra, snugly fit at the hips and flared around the ankles. She went with an emerald green and gold colour scheme to compliment her 75-year-old traditional choker of emerald set in gold. The dress reportedly cost around Rs 20 lakh.
Apparently Sania intends to keep her wedding plans as discreet as possible to avoid inviting further trouble than what already exists.
There are brides who can't stop gushing about their bridal outfit, but Sania's is as exception. Sania was always guarded about her private life.
Even after the media got to know about her would be marriage with Shoaib Malik, she wrote on Twitter, “I know this has come as a big surprise to everyone but I hope you all understand that I have always kept my personal life private & I would.”
As of now, the wedding is to be held on April 15 at Taj Krishna in Hyderabad.
However, the Mirzas have a back-up plan in case there is some disruption. For example, the Shiv Sena is planning to ‘boycott' the wedding.
In case, there is any sign of trouble, the wedding may be shifted to one of the heritage hotels in Jaipur or Jodhpur in Rajasthan.
Former tennis champs Steffi Graff and Andre Agassi head the list of confirmed guests. Former Pakistan cricket captain Imran Khan is a maybe.
Other guests who have RSVPed a Sorry-can't do-but-wishing-the-couple-the-very-best are Kajol and Ajay Devgan (currently in Dubai), tennis ace and mentor Mahesh Bhupathi (who will be in Monte Carlo) and actor Lara Dutta who will be with her family in Bangalore. Among the invitees are Hyderabad Police Commissioner A K Khan.
Meanwhile, Pakistan's feisty Federal Minister for Population Welfare Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan has said, she would accompany the barat to India, because Shoaib belongs to her parliamentary constituency. She is going to gift a Population Control kit to the new couple too, she revealed at a press conference.
Agassi, Steffi expected to come for wedding
