At least five people lost their lives and two others were injured after a cold drink-laden and a bike were hit by a train at a railway crossing in Shahjahanpur of Uttar Pradesh. The incident took place on Thursday around 5 am at the Hulasnagla railway crossing on the Delhi-Lucknow National Highway.
The injured are undergoing treatment at the government hospital. According to details available, Chandigarh-Lucknow special express was given a signal while the railway crossing was open. This led to the collision. The entire rail traffic was suspended for more than three hours after the mishap.
DM Indira Vikram Singh said that 05012 Chandigarh-Lucknow express train was coming from Bareilly when it hit a mini-truck and a bike. The incident took place under Katra police station's limit.
The deceased persons include three members of a family and two others, Driver of the truck was critically injured in the mishap.
Meanwhile, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased in the accident.
