Chennai: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's stopover here on June 29 enroute to Sriharikota to witness the launch of PSLV C-23, security has been increased manifold at the city airport, police said today.
In view of Modi's visit, a tight security blanket has been thrown in and around the airport premises.
Modi is expected to land here by a special aircraft from New Delhi by 3.35 PM and will be take a helicopter to reach Sriharikota after a stopover of 5-10 minutes here.
He would return here on June 30 around 11.30 AM and leave for Delhi ten minutes later. Four helicopters have been stationed here for use by the Prime Minister and his entourage.
Armed security personnel have been deployed to guard the helicopters, police added.
Modi is scheduled to witness the flight of PSLV-C23 which would launch French Earth Observation Satellite SPOT-7 and four co-passenger spacecrafts from Canada, Germany and Singapore at 9.52 am on Jun 30 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota, about 100 km from here.
