Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to rename Sant Ravidas Nagar district as Bhadohi on the recommendation of the District Magistrate.
An official spokesman of the state government yesterday said that the decision in this regard was taken during a meeting of the state Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
"The decision to rename the district was taken on the recommendation of the District Magistrate," the spokesman said.
The Cabinet also decided to give 10 per cent discount on sale of khadi cloths for 108 days with effect from November 1.
Besides, it approved a proposal to launch Swachh Bharat Mission (rural) in place of Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan. The state government's share for construction of toilets was increased to Rs 3,000 per unit, the spokesman said.
At the meeting, it was also decided to give laptop to toppers of high and intermediate examinations in 2014 in every district.
