Srinagar: Former union minister and senior Congress leader Saifuddin Soz faced angry protest by flood victims in Srinagar for delay in providing relief assistances to them.
Irate people pushed him and sought ‘go back' and ‘go to hell'.
One of the victim said, “This is a shameless government.”
The Congress leader was then rescued by the security officials.
He had gone to a relief shelter in Srinagar to take a stock of relief works.
“I came here because I wanted help the victims. I am not saying that people shouldn't express their anger .... I wanted to take the list of base camp, relief camp... This calamity is far beyond any government. This government (Jammu and Kashmir government) has no any apparatus to face it. Now, the Government of India is doing a big effort, Army is doing....,” he said.
Meanwhile, a top state government official said that more than 50,000 people have been rescued so far, but thousands are still trapped at several places. Officials said 215 people have died in the Jammu and Kashmir floods.
