New Delhi, Sep 27: While the Planning Commission has been tying itself up in knots while calculating the daily expenses of a family below poverty level between Rs 26 and Rs 32 per day, our netas threw a bash on the occasion of the completion of third year of UPA-2 government, where the cost of a single dinner plate came to Rs 7,721, an official reply through the RTI route reveals.
An RTI activist Ramesh Verma sought to know the expenses incurred on the UPA-2 government's third year bash, and the total expenses came to a staggering figure.
According to the RTI reply, the total expense on catering at the PM residence dinner party was Rs 11, 34, 296 while government spent Rs 14, 42, 678 on the arrangements of tent. Expenditure on the flower decoration at the party came to Rs 26, 444.
That means, the total expenditure on the Prime Minister's dinner party came to Rs 28, 95, 503.
A total of 603 netas were invited to the party, but only 375 of them could manage to attend it.
Even as the aam aadmi on the street is finding it hard to cope with the rising prices, the average per head expenses for the dinner party came to Rs 7,721 per plate.
And yet the Prime Minister sermonizes us to say that money don't grow on trees.
Charity surely begins at 7, Race Course Road, Mr Prime Minister.
