In a daring daylight robbery, six armed robbers wearing black goggles and with their faces covered entered the house of a businessman in Saraswati Vihar, held the family members and all relatives assembled for the ‘Chauth' ceremony (fourth day after the death of a person) as captives, and went on a looting spree, before decamping with Rs 5 lakhs worth cash and valuables, the victims said.
Nearly 20 persons present in the house were looted by the robbers, armed with cellphones.The entire operation took hardly 15 to 20 minutes with two accomplices waiting outside in 2 cars and 3 scooters, family members said.
Even as the robbery was going on, family members informed PCR (police control room), but the police reached the place after nearly an hour. The police asked the family members over phone : “Where is Saraswati Vihar?”
The robbers snatched the gold earring from the ears of a lady, and soon, most of the ladies assembled for the ‘Chauth' ceremony took out their gold ornaments and gave it to the assailants. The robbers rifled through the almirahs and looted cash and valuables, family members said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) N S Bundela said, police were investigating.
