Thane: A retired Navy man killed his wife and daughter as he was in stress due to mounting debt. In his chilling confession, the accused 42-year-old Rajesh Kumar pieces together the events of the day he decided to kill his wife and daughter, reports Mumbai Mirror.
Curled up in a corner of the Kasar Wadavli police station, the merchant navy man was arrested on Tuesday by Thane police for allegedly murdering his wife Sangeeta and five-year-old daughter Tanishka.
Police said, Rajesh, a resident of Thane's Anamitra Towers at Ghodbunder Road, had borrowed money from a woman, with whom he was believed to be in a relationship. It was when the woman demanded that Rajesh pay her back, his wife came to know about it. This, say the police, led to regular quarrels between the couple.
“On Monday night Rajesh had a heated argument with Sangeeta. At 7 am on Tuesday he got up and in a fit of rage, picked up a grinding stone and bludgeoned Sangeeta and Tanshika to death,” said Police Inspector Pramod Khade.
In a chillingly stable voice, a dry-eyed Rajesh pieced together the events of the morning. “My elder daughter Ayushi, 16, was sleeping in the living room. I told her that I tried to kill her mother and sister and asked her to check if they were seriously injured. When Ayushi saw the two, she panicked,” narrated Rajesh calmly.
“Tanishka had received severe head injuries and was unconscious. The sight of her sister upset Ayushi and she shouted for help. The neighbours heard her cries. I took both the injured to the civil hospital. While Sangeeta had already succumbed to her injuries, Tanishka was taken to another hospital where she was declared dead,” continued Rajesh.
“I killed my wife and daughter out of frustration. I was going through a bad phase because of financial problems. There were regular arguments with my wife and unable to bear the pressure I decided to kill them and then myself,” said Rajesh. And at this stage, he quickly added, that the sight of blood brought him to his senses.
He claimed he realised his mistake and dropped the idea of killing himself. Incidentally, five months ago Rajesh's contract with a shipping company had terminated and he had been jobless since then.Thane police is now trying to identify the lady who was allegedly in a relationship with Rajesh and had lent him money.
