Expressing condolences on the demise of Ratan Tata, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said he has left an indelible mark on society. "Saddened by the passing away of Shri Ratan Tata, a leader par excellence, visionary industrialist, and philanthropist whose contributions have left an indelible mark on our society," Sitharaman said in a post on X.

People from different walks of life gathered outside the residence of Ratan Tata in south Mumbai on Thursday morning to pay their respects to the veteran industrialist, who died in a hospital in Mumbai.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday mourned the death of Ratan Tata, saying the "visionary" industrialist was a true "nationalist". "Deeply saddened by the demise of Ratan Tata ji, a true nationalist and a visionary industrialist who served as the Former Chairperson of Tata Group and brought immense pride to Bharat through his exceptional achievements," Goyal said in a post on social media platform X.

Chief Ministers of West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha condoled the demise of Tata Group’s chairman emeritus and veteran industrialist Ratan Tata, and said his legacy will live on forever.

Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy paid tributes of his friend Ratan Tata who died last night in Mumbai. "Ratan was a role model for me, losing a dear friend like him is very painful," Murhty said.

Google and Alphabet CEO Sunder Pichai mourned the death of veteran industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Naval Tata, remembering him as someone who drove India to greater prosperity and development.

 “My last meeting with Ratan Tata at Google, we talked about the progress of Waymo and his vision was inspiring to hear. He left an extraordinary business and philanthropic legacy and was instrumental in mentoring and developing modern business leadership in India. He deeply cared about making India better. Deep condolences to his loved ones and Rest in Peace Shri Ratan Tata Ji,” wrote Google and Alphabet CEO Sunder Pichai on X on Wednesday.

The US Consulate in Mumbai expresses grief over the passing away of veteran industrialist Ratan Tata. In a tweet, the consulate mentioned, "A visionary leader and a national icon whose unwavering commitment to innovation and philanthropy transformed India and the world. His legacy will inspire generations to come. We offer our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the people of India."

Actor Anup Kher paid tributes to industrialist Ratan Tata who died on Wednesday night. His X post read, "Good bye Mr. Ratan Tata!! THANK YOU for your life and your life lessons! Tata Group-owned Taj Hotels expressed its condolence after the death of Ratan Tata. "Words fall short today. Mr. Ratan Tata's profound humanity and selfless compassion shall always inspire us. He will forever be remembered as our beloved mentor," Taj Hotels said in a post on X.

Maharashtra CMO released a statement - "Maharashtra government has declared one day of mourning in respect of Ratan Tata. All govt buildings will have the national flag at half mast and no cultural or entertainment programme of the govt will be held today. Ratan Tata’s funeral will be conducted with all state honours."

On the demise of Ratan Tata, PM Narendra Modi spoke with Noel Tata and expressed condolences. Also, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend the last rituals of Ratan Tata on behalf of the Government of India.

Preparations are underway at NCPA, Nariman Point as the mortal remains of Ratan Tata are to be brought here for the public to pay their last respects before the last rites.

Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav expressed his condolence over the death of veteran industrialist Ratan Tata. His post on X read, "The demise of the country's renowned industrialist and Honorary Chairman of Tata Sons, Shri Ratan Tata Ji is an irreparable loss not only for the industrial world but for all Indians. Today the country has lost not only a great industrialist but also a very sensitive person who was always dedicated towards national service and humanity. His departure will always leave a void not only in India but also in the world industry. His contribution to the development of the country will remain unforgettable. I pray to Baba Mahakal to give a place to the departed soul in his abode and also give strength to every grieving person to bear this immense sorrow."

Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai paid tributes to industrialist Ratan Tata, who died on Wednesday night. His X post read, "Deeply saddened to know, Ratan Tata, who gave a new meaning to charity & philanthropy throughout his living life; an ethical business leader who had always put fair practices & country’s interest over any short-term needs; who had imprinted his strong unshakeable values on the illustrious Tata Group with its strong corporate governance principles is no more with us! I pray for his eternal sadagati and offer my sincere condolences to the Tata Group and his near and dear ones!"

Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan expressed grief on the demise of the Chairman Emeritus of the Tata Group, Ratan Tata. In a condolence message, the Governor said, "Shri Ratan Tata was one of the brightest jewels of the global Tata empire founded by the late Jamshedji Tata 150 years ago. Adopting modern management practices, Ratan Tata established the Tata Group as a trusted Indian global brand, without ever compromising with the vision of the founding fathers. At a time when there is erosion of values, Ratan Tata upheld and safeguarded the best of ethics and moral values in his personal, social and professional life. Ratan Tata was truly the 'conscience keeper' of Indian industry and the nation....As we strive to achive the goal of Viksit Bharat, adopting the values of trust, excellence and innovation so dear to him in every field will be a real tribute to Shri Ratan Tata. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar paid tributes on the demise of veteran industrialist Ratan Tata. "The passing away of Ratan Tata is the end of an era. He was deeply associated with the modernisation of Indian industry. And even more so with its globalisation. Was my privilege to have interacted with him on numerous occasions. And benefitted from his vision and insights. Join the nation in mourning his demise. Om shanti," his post on X read.

Additional Commissioner of South Region, Mumbai Police Abhinav Deshmukh said, "The mortal remains of Ratan Tata will be kept at NCPA for the darshan between 10 am to 3.30 pm. All police arrangements will be made."

"It is with a profound sense of loss that we bid farewell to Mr. Ratan N Tata. The mortal remains of Mr Ratan N Tata will be taken to the NCPA Lawns, Nariman Point, Mumbai at 10:30am on Thursday, 10th October 2024, for members of the public to pay their last respects and homage to the departed soul. We will request the members of the public to enter NCPA Lawns from Gate 3 and the exit will be at Gate 2. There will be no parking available at the premises. At 3.30 pm, the mortal remains will embark on its journey for the final rites," a statement read.

President Droupadi Murmu expressed her condolences over the demise of Ratan Tata. The President posted on X, "In the sad demise of Shri Ratan Tata, India has lost an icon who blended corporate growth with nation building, and excellence with ethics. A recipient of Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhushan, he took forward the great Tata legacy and gave it a more impressive global presence. He inspired seasoned professionals and young students alike. His contribution to philanthropy and charity is invaluable. I convey my condolences to his family, the entire team of the Tata Group and his admirers across the globe."

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde paid tributes to iconic industrialist Ratan Tata who died at Mumbai hospital on Wednesday night.

"A rare gem is lost Ratanji | Tata had a unique and ideal combination of ethics and entrepreneurship. Ratanji Tata was a living legend who successfully led the Tata Group with a tradition of excellence and integrity spanning nearly 150 years. The decisiveness and mental toughness he displayed time after time took the Tata Group to different industrial heights. I pay my respects to them. Ratanji Tata's body will be cremated with state honors," the CM's post read.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on the demise of Ratan Tata. The PM posted on X and said, "My mind is filled with countless interactions with Shri Ratan Tata Ji. I would meet him frequently in Gujarat when I was the CM. We would exchange views on diverse issues. I found his perspectives very enriching. These interactions continued when I came to Delhi. Extremely pained by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family, friends and admirers in this sad hour. Om Shanti."

Under Ratan Tata's stewardship, the conglomerate embarked on a massive expansion drive, snapping iconic British assets including steelmaker Corus and luxury carmaker Jaguar Land Rover. 

Ratan Tata became chairman of Tata Industries in 1991 took over as the chairman of the Tata Group from his uncle, JRD, who had been in charge for more than half a century.

Educated at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, Ratan Tata worked on the shop floor at the family-run group after returning to India in 1962. He gained experience in several Tata Group firms before being named director in charge of one of them, the National Radio and Electronics Co. in 1971.

A top official of the Mumbai police was the first to inform of his death, followed by a confirmation by Tata Group chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran who called Tata "a truly uncommon leader whose immeasurable contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation".

Ratan Tata, the chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, died at Mumbai hospital on Wednesday night. Tata, who was chairman of the salt to software group for more than two decades, breathed his last at south Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital at 11. 30 pm.
