Lucknow: In a bid to make ‘Swachch Bharat Abhiyan' a grand success, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti on Tuesday pledged to rejuvenate the glory of Gomti river.
Both the leaders took part in a cleanliness drive, organised by the Lok Abhiyaan Manch, at the bank of the river in the city.
Besides Singh and Bharti, veteran BJP leader Lalji Tandon and party MP from Domariyaganj, Jagdambika Pal, were among others who took part in the drive.
Speaking on the occasion, Jagdambika Pal said, “Today we took part in the campaign to clean Gomto river. The event was organised by the Lok Abhiyaan Manch on the on the lines of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ‘Swachch Bharat Abhiyan'... he will be launching this on October 2 on the occasion of Mahatama Gandhi's birth anniversary.”
School children also took out a march across the city to spread awareness among people.
Gomti is a tributary of the Ganga river. It begins its journey from Fulhar Jheel in Pilibhit district and confluences with Ganga near Saidpur in Ghazipur. Total length of the river is about 940 km.
