New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today approved the appointment of Rajiv Mehrishi, Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance as Home Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs for a period of two years.
Rajiv, who was schedule for retire from service today, succeeds LC Goyal.
Rajiv, born on 8 August 1955, is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of 1978 batch belonging to Rajasthan cadre.
Prior to his appointment to the Ministry of Finance, he was the Chief Secretary, Government of Rajasthan.
Rajiv Mehrishi holds a degree in business administration from Strathclyde Business School, Glasgow.
The Prime Minister has also approved the request of outgoing Home Secretary LC Goyal, seeking voluntary retirement from Government service due to personal reasons with immediate effect.
