Jaipur: The Rajasthan High Court yesterday refused to stay the exercise of Surya Namaskar as a part of yoga curriculum in state-run schools.
A bench of Justice A K Singh and Justice Anupinder Grewal refused to accept a petition filed by Ajmat Rasool Foundation challenging the government decision.
It was argued on behalf of the state government that Surya Namaskar has been introduced as a part of yoga curriculam and is just one of the yoga exercises that will be taught.
If any community or special students do not wish to profess Surya Namaskar it will purely be at his discretion as the same is only optional.
The bench refused to pass any further order holding that the clarification given by the state government is sufficient to hold that Surya Namaskar is an optional yoga exercise and it is not being thrust upon students as mandatory.
