New Delhi: Non-stop heavy rainfall in Mumbai from Friday morning has waterlogged chronic flooding spots like Hindmata, Mahim junction, Kurla west and Chembur.

The BMC disaster management, however, has maintained that the situation is under control.

It has been raining incessantly since the last two days in Mumbai. The lakes though haven't filled up yet.

The catchment area of the lakes has hit a 5-year low with the BMC planning to increase the water cut to 30 per cent.

A high tide alert of waves as high as 4.36 metres was sounded on Friday morning. Meanwhile, local trains in the city are running smoothly.

Mumbai's suburban local trains on all three lines -- Central, Western and Harbour were running late by more than 30 to 40 minutes.

Various areas in Mumbai such as Hindmata, Dadar, Matunga, Kurla, some parts of LBS road faced water logging, which brought the traffic to complete halt. Many BEST buses had to be diverted.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Colaba received 101.0 mm and Santa Cruz received 47.8 mm rainfall in last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am.

According to IMD, the city is likely to receive heavy rainfall in the next two days.
