New Delhi: The Indian Railways will spend Rs.5,116 crore on projects in the Northeast to increase connectivity in the region. This is 54 percent jump over allocations in the previous fiscal.
Also, the railways would take up eco-tourism and education tourism services in the northeastern States.
Presenting the railway budget in the Lok Sabha Tuesday, Railway Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda said there are 23 projects underway in the northeast, of which 11 are national projects.
He hoped the Dudhnoi-Mendipathar new line, Lumding-Badarpur-Silchar gauge conversion, Harmuti-Murkongselek and Balipara-Bhalukpong sections will be commissioned soon.
